Centre for One Health Education, Research & Development (COHERD) Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG), India with support from Institute for Hygiene and Public Health (IHPH), Universitätsklinikum Bonn, Germany
The interconnected nature of human health within whole ecosystems is boosting the need for integrated approaches like One Health. It emphasizes the need for a paradigm shift from disease-specific interventions to holistic cross-cutting approaches coordinating with adjacent disciplines. The One Health approach exemplifies this shift, extending beyond a conventional model of zoonotic disease control to consider the interactions of human and animal health systems within their shared environment and the wider social and economic context. The interactions between humans, animals and their shared environment are greatly affected by urbanization processes and transformations leading to health implications and risks both at local and global level.
Centre for One Health Education, Research, & Development (COHERD) at IIPHG, Gujarat, India, is a pioneer center for excelling the one health education, training and advanced research with support from the IHPH, Bonn, Germany was established in April 2021. The vision of the centre is „Vision: One Health for ALL“ with a mission „Mission: One (Human-Animal-Ecosystem) Welfare“.
The COHERD aims –
1. To train the next generation human resources for health (students/professionals of human/animal medicine, environmental science) on one health topics
2. To advocate the one health policy implementation through generating evidence-based research
3. To conduct advanced research at the interface of human-animal-environment health by providing a new horizon to the young researchers.
