Dr. Somen Saha
Professor
Somen Saha is an Professor with the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar. His work areas include economic assessment of health programmes, impact evaluation, health financing, and health systems convergence. Somen holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia and dual Masters in Public Health (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) and Health Management (Indian Institute of Health Management Research).
Somen is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, serves as External Project Advisor at the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and served as visiting faculty at the National Institute of Design and Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management at Ahmedabad.
Somen currently leads the Regional Resource Centre for Health Technology Assessment set up at IIPHG with support from Department of Health Research, Government of India. He is also a recipient of Mental Health grant from the Gujarat Institute of Mental Health – Hospital for Mental Health Ahmedabad. He served as a consultant to SEWA Rural for economic evaluation of a mHealth Intervention ImTeCHO to improve delivery of proven maternal, newborn and child care interventions through ASHAs in Tribal Areas of Gujarat, India. He has extensive experience in economic assessment of programmes including Safe Childbirth Checklist programme in Rajasthan, Norway India Partnership Initiative in Rajasthan and Odisha, Parivartan programme in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh Community Mobilization programme in Uttar Pradesh.
His teaching experience includes teaching courses in Project Management, Financial Management, Health Technology Assessment, Impact Evaluation and Quality of Care at the Master’s level. His research interest is Health financing and programme evaluation including economic evaluation of health programmes. He has more than 50 publications, with an H index & I 10 index more than 9.
