Obesity is emerging as a huge public health concern and started affecting the Indian population at a very young age. This can trigger early onset of more severe diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, polycystic ovary syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. Current project aims to study the impact of intermittent fasting on weight loss through a randomized controlled trial.
Objectives:
- To study the effect of intermittent fasting on weight loss in Indian subjects.
- Evaluate its impact on lipid and inflammatory marker parameters.
- Measure compliance with intermittent fasting and its acceptability.
Selected Geography:
Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, different wellness centers, medical colleges and hospitals
Expected Outcomes:
The project findings can contribute significantly in establishing efficacy of intermittent fasting as weight loss strategy. This will promote advocacy for integration of intermittent fasting into public and private interventions aiming to control obesity. Also, intermittent fasting is cost effective intervention and hence can be used for health promotion activities for masses.
