Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG), in collaboration with the Global Health section of the Institute of Hygiene & Public Health (IHPH) in Bonn, Germany, established a Centre for One Health, Education, Research & Development at the IIPHG, known as COHERD. This centre is dedicated to interdisciplinary education, research, and development in One Health in Southeast Asia. COHERD actively engaged with state government, national and international organizations, and advocates to establish and strengthen the One Health System. The centre contributes to One Health, education, research, & development.

Aim and Objectives of COHERD:

Educating the next generation of healthcare professionals, including students and practitioners in human/animal medicine and environmental science, on one health topics.
Advocating for the implementation of one health policy by generating evidence-based research.
Providing young researchers with a new perspective by conducting advanced research at the intersection of human-animal-environment health.
One Health: Equalizing the micro and macro lens for a Sustainable Planet

Zoonotic Diseases & Neglected Tropical Diseases (Z-NTD)

The centre has been actively engaged in researching zoonotic
and neglected tropical diseases, with a particular focus on disease transmission and it’s pathway, knowledge and awareness among the community and climate-sensitive zoonotic diseases. One of the centre’s key achievements and specializations lies in disease and risk factor prioritization from the One Health perspective.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

In the field of AMR, the centre has executed numerous research projects investigating the epidemiological determinants and transmission pathways of AMR. Their primary focus lies in understanding the transmission of antimicrobial resistance from animals to humans and from the agroecosystem to humans. Additionally, the centre actively contributes to community engagement efforts related to AMR.
